Ten Years After
Ten Years After
Ten years have passed since Yuri Shibuya compiled a collection of photographs for the book “CAMP4,Yosemite”. Where climbers who stay in Yosemite for long periods of time pitch their tents. Yuri Shibuya's relationship with Yosemite has become deeper and closer, and she has made more acquaintances. The people she photographed during this period were “people who inspire me in many ways,” she says. In other words, it may refer to the way she faces the rocks in Yosemite. Climbers stay in Yosemite for a month or more in season and immerse themselves in Yosemite for long periods of time. No one wears clean clothes. They wear clothes as worn as their fingers and bodies, with chalk bags strapped to their waists. Some of them are world-class climbers whom I admire, but the important thing is that they embody the joy of surrendering to the great flow. She says that climbing is the way to meet people who enjoy it. which is as close as she gets to capturing the “rock” that only she knows. The sensibility that the land of Yosemite attracts and nurtures is pure and stripped bare of people.
